Cut Edge Corrosion

Corrosion normally starts as edge peel at the cut edges of a metal sheet. It develops through normal weathering mainly at overlaps due to these areas’ having no protective coating.

Edge corrosion is a progressive problem and, if neglected, can develop away from the cut edge, destroying the weather-sealed lap joint and gutter overhang. Early detection and effective treatment prevents costly future sheet replacement

We can offer a few systems form different paint manufactures to rectify this problem, which can increase the life of the joint for over 10 years and is a very cost affective way of prolonging the life of your roof.

The process:

The treatment begins by preparing the affected area of rusting and delamination involving mechanically removing any traces of rust back to bright metal, normally approx. 5cm either side of the joint, then removing any dirt etc with a suitable cleanser.

Apply a joint sealant to the edges, using a gun, to bridge the gap of the lap where cut edge corrosion has occurred ensuring to get as much into the joint as possible

A hi build primer is now applied over the top of the sealed gaps using a brush covering all bare metal areas.

Then, a topcoat is applied over the treated area to match the existing colour of the roof.

The specifications vary slightly depending on which product manufacture is specified however a minimum 10 year warranty applies to all products used...
